Reshaping of the Heart

The shaping of our hearts is a bigger deal than one might expect. As we trip through life, we encounter many messages, hints and ideas that we digest and believe as “truth.” Truths about who we are and our potential in business and life. It’s a shame we don’t take the time to address these ideas because many are not true.

As a child, I received my first label – trouble maker. The problem was I wasn’t actually trying to make trouble. The message this sent to my heart was crippling. It produced a strange kind of people pleasing fruit in my life.

Early on in my business life it was extremely difficult to lead when I was always worried about being liked.

You see – the shaping of our hearts happens quietly. Seldom do we recognize the patterns of distortion, but we always feel the effects. In a leaders life, it causes us to be fearful of the wrong things.

At least in my life’s experience I have found that leaders can find freedom by asking a few questions and exposing these nasty little lies.

Getting unstuck sometimes requires a little work.

In your mind’s eye picture this:

For one hour you are center stage. In the auditorium is all of your loved ones. What if, they were given the freedom to be utterly honest and share with you their thoughts about you? What would you imagine they would say?

Chances are if you feel fear you have a little work to do. (I know I do.) But let me ask you this, what are you believing about your self that may be untrue? Why are you believing that?

This sort of self-reflection takes a lot of commitment. It also takes a lot of God time. Ask God to help you see the truth. I can assure you God is interested in matters of your heart. God desires us to be fully alive in all aspects of life.

For me, this meant ditching the baggage that was not mine to carry. It also required me to address and change the patterns of my life that are true yet harmful.

Understanding what you believe about yourself and why is a significant step in a leader’s journey. Noting untruths and overcoming destructive patterns is imperative to a strong and vibrant life.

As a child growing up I was called, “Olive Oil, broomstick with hair, big nose, skinny.” The list goes on and on. I’ve had to learn how to love myself. Yes, I to worry how others view me. Im learning how to be what
He wants me to be. Thanks for sharing.
