This is the podcast designed to encourage you to thrive as you lead others in business and life.

This week I invite you along with me and my family on a trip.  A trip to my parents home.  It’s here where I discover that every leader can learn to leave a positive legacy by learning from the examples of a dad who prioritized his role as father and engaged his family in love.

 Key Points:

  • Give - Great leaders serve the people they lead.

  • Laugh – Great leaders laugh.

  • Love – Great leaders fully engage their heart.

  • Stand – Great leaders stay strong.

  • Leave – Great leaders leave behind Truth and love.

What qualities would you add to this list?

Unavoidable Offense

A leader’s effectiveness decays throughout time if one never learns the art of forgiving. As we lead others, offense is unavoidable. Unavoidable, because we are broken leaders leading broken followers. Perfection has not happened for any leader, except perhaps Jesus – but He is hard to figure out. Somehow he leads by being downright counter cultural while consistently landing on love.

An almost impossible task for mere humans.

The other day, I witnessed the effects that offenses have on leaders. My admiration for my friend is sincere but as we shared stories something inside of him drastically changed. From his heart (and consequentially mouth) came nothing but poisonous toxins. Criticism of others that lacked any form of gratitude.

Simple Leadership

“I am not much of a leader.”

In times past, we just led. Everyone was actively involved and life meant showing up and leading. We either literally helped lead, or we led by enthusiastic participation in the project.

Running Crazy

The weather has been perfect for running. I am not a great runner, but lately the running has been enjoyable. Every time I run a euphoric regeneration of my body happens. Strange but in two days I can already feel the need to jog.

The park I run through is covered with large mature trees. The path is narrow and weaving. This time of year the summer musky smell is faint. The only detectable odor is a slight hint of Springtime sweetness. I am telling you – it is really nice.

I have concluded that the natural beauty of the park is not enough. Music is a necessary ingredient for a good run. I need to escape the pain of my joints and the internal lazy guy that screams for me to “stop the madness!” (Do you know that guy?”) The other day I made a slight change to my routine and tried running to a new play list. The list was full of my favorite worship tunes. I figured I could kill two birds with one stone. Worship God and get a good workout.
