Reshaping of the Heart

The shaping of our hearts is a bigger deal than one might expect. As we trip through life, we encounter many messages, hints and ideas that we digest and believe as “truth.” Truths about who we are and our potential in business and life. It’s a shame we don’t take the time to address these ideas because many are not true.

As a child, I received my first label – trouble maker. The problem was I wasn’t actually trying to make trouble. The message this sent to my heart was crippling. It produced a strange kind of people pleasing fruit in my life.

Early on in my business life it was extremely difficult to lead when I was always worried about being liked.

The Problem Was My Heart

Finishing the uphill climb and rounding the corner was the first sense of relief found on this run. It was hot and humid – I kept grumbling to myself that I was an idiot to  over sleep. Jogging the other day I was harassed with questions from my favorite podcast team. The question was, what is my definition of “The Good Life?” Why? I know a bit about living the “good life” because I am from Nebraska and that is our state motto.

Here are the highlights I share concerning my version of living the “good life.”

  • More Meaningful Relationships.
  • More Meaningful Work.
  • More Joy to Offer.
  • More Things to Create.

The point is not to baffle you with my brilliance but encourage you to define the “good life” for yourself. Every leader can actually begin to experience the good life however, we must first take time to understand what we are asking for.

Please let me know what you came up with. What is your personal definition of the “good life?”

Those where the days when I sported a 34 inch waist line and could bench press a small vehicle. (Like a Volkswagen bug, with no engine or tires or axles or…you get my point, right?) I ran and lifted and played sports – for fun. It was fun, kinda fun, well worry free eating was fun. I was too light for my position in football – always needing to gain weight.

Life was Good. :)
